Mountain Biking in Snowdonia and Coed y Brenin

MOUNTAIN BIKING at nearby Coed y Brenin (Forest of the King), has something to offer all levels of mountain biker. There are numerous routes set in the forest, ranging From the 12km Fun route, the famous 'Red Bull' and 'MBR' trails through to the strenuous 38km technical single track of the Karrimor loop which has a punishing 1110m climb.

Tarw

The old 'Red Bull' trail has been joined together with other trails - such as 'Flight Path' - on the far side of the road to create the 'Tarw Trail' This route involves some 7 miles (11.3km) of riding on a wide variety of tracks and trails, from wide, fast forest roads, rocky rough and tumble tracks to technical singletracks. Such delights as 'Al's loop', the 'Rocky Horror Show' and the 'Root of All Evil'.

MBR

This trail at 14 miles (22km) and explores some of the quieter parts of the forest. There are some tough climbs and lots of technical single-track. In particular look out for the 'Pink Heifer' and the 'Pinderosa' both long flowing gradual descents. We rate the MBR as the best 'official' ride here.

The Beast

38km of superb riding, combining the MBR, the old Karrimor and some of the newer singletrack sections provides the ultimate 'official' trail here at CyB.

Dragons Tail

The old Karrimor now becomes the 31km Dragon's Back trail and again it's re-routed in places to make more sense and use of the new trail sections.

Temtiwr

Ramping up the technical and fitness challenge a fair way is the 'Temtiwr Trail', a 9km tempter trail giving you a taste of what to expect on the longer rides.

The Vista Run

Tough climbs, superb single-track, fast forest descents, unrivalled scenery combine to make this a testing ride. Starting and ending at your cabin, look out for 'Slipper Dipper'.

THE Pink Heifer

THE Pink Heifer does exist. It is the ultimate ride at Coed-y-Brenin. In fact it is one mother of a scary adrenalin fuelled 4 hour ride. Utilising some of the best sections of the MBR and the Karrimor trails, it is the 'off piste' elements that are not way marked, that make THE Pink Heifer what it is.
